2013 Sawbuck Malbec
91 Points and Gold Medal winner at the 2015 San Francisco International Wine Competition!
Sawbuck Malbec has beautiful aromas of raspberry, boysenberry and brown sugar. Concentrated flavors of black cherry, mocha and smoky vanilla are supported by soft, dusty tannins and a hint of rustic blueberry cobbler. Well-balanced and elegant, this wine is a unique alternative to Cabernet Sauvignon or Merlot.
The malbec grown at our Matchbook Vineyard was harvested in late September. 15% of the juice was bled off after crushing to concentrate flavors before fermenting with ES488 and native yeast. We pressed off the skins at dryness and barrel aged the wine for 18 months in French and American oak barrels. We added 15% petit verdot, 4% syrah and 2% graciano to improve mouthfeel and increase depth.
Hearty Italian dishes, spicy paella, grilled meats or mushroom risotto.
Blend: 79% Malbec, 15% Petit Verdot, 4% Syrah, 2% Graciano
