2020 Tinto Rey Estate Bottled Verdejo
Our 2019 Verdejo is perfect for an outdoor happy hour with lots of citrus flavors, a pop of green apple fruitiness and a refreshing finish.
Verdejo, the iconic Spanish white grape, thrives in our warm and rocky Dunnigan Hills terroir. The varietal is known for being bright and lively and the 2019 Tinto Rey is all that and more. The aroma is a beautiful bouquet of gardenia, mock orange and tuberose. The flavors are a burst of white peach, lemon, apricot and crisp apple followed by a note of creaminess from the barrel aging. The flinty, mineral finish is satisfyingly crisp and refreshing.
The Verdejo is always the first to be harvested on our estate. We pick in the early morning hours both by hand and machine. A portion of the grapes were whole cluster pressed. Then the wine was fermented in neutral oak barrels and stainless-steel tanks. Barrel fermented lots were aged 5 months in neutral oak to increase complexity and mouthfeel, resulting in a wine that is crisp and refreshing with great complexity and mouthfeel. Here in the United States, Verdejo is hard to come by, but this Spanish grape is well suited for the Mediterranean climate in our Dunnigan Hills.
Tinto Rey Verdejo is the perfect pairing for sushi, spicy shrimp or a classic niçoise salad.
